Medical recruitment with a difference
A look at our people and culture - learn why we're a unique workplace
Put aside what you think you know about medical recruitment agencies because we’re different. Wavelength was founded with a clear purpose, strong values and a caring culture. We put our people first, believe in work-life balance and take the time to understand what makes each of us thrive to build dynamic teams.
We’ve specialised in Medical recruitment for over 21 years
Wavelength has been helping doctors find the perfect locum or permanent jobs to further their medical careers for over 21 years now. Our company was founded by Dr John Bethell and Claire Ponsford, with a real emphasis on culture and values as the foundation. We only exist because of our people, including our dedicated People & Culture team who drive initiatives, like training, seminars, wellbeing walk-ins, access to exercise classes, and more.
We’re always open to evolving and last year we acquired the successful Executive Search Firm; Ccentric to complement and enhance our existing services. This takes our company to 92 unique people who are dedicated, enthusiastic and committed to the Wavelength values of integrity, excellence, ingenuity and heart.
We pride ourselves on creating an empowering environment built around a team of people who genuinely care about making a difference.
We’re an award-winning workplace
We care. Not just about our doctors, but about each other. With many team members coming from overseas to live and work in Australia, colleagues are like friends, and Wavies (as we call ourselves) become a second family.
We’re social too. We love nothing more than holding an event to recognise and celebrate wonderful milestones. And with the current climate, this hasn’t changed! We’re hosting Zoom trivia every Friday afternoon; and there have been a few surprise treats, flowers and wine deliveries to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries!
We love what we do! We’re proud that each year we help to find locum and permanent jobs for over 3,500 doctors both in Australia and New Zealand, helping doctors provide over 402,000 hours of care.
And, we care about building long-term relationships. We’re proud to say that 97% of our doctors would recommend our service to others and many of the doctors and healthcare employers who partnered with us in the beginning still work with us today.
We want our employees to grow and thrive at work
One of the main reasons people love working at Wavelength is because of the rich learning and development opportunities we provide. We take the time to nurture people’s careers. It’s common for people to move between roles internally, because they’re seeking stimulating, meaningful work. Nowadays, it’s almost unheard of someone staying in one company for 4+ years, but we’re super proud to say many Wavelength employees have been with us for more than 10 years! In fact, our average tenure is 4 years, which is pretty impressive for a company with under 100 people.
We put this down to creating an environment where people can grow with us — whether that means upskilling in their current role, taking on more responsibilities, or changing roles. We focus on people’s unique strengths and personal goals.
Another key reason is the genuine work/life balance we provide. Wavelength employees enjoy flexible hours, work from home options, study support and much more. We want to see our Wavelength employees grow and thrive.
Learn more about the career journey of a few Wavelength employees:
Julia started at Wavelength as a Para Consultant before becoming the Para Manager. Then she worked as the Business Analyst before progressing to the Business Improvement Manager role. But it doesn’t stop there, she went on to join the Projects team before becoming the Executive Assistant to our CEO and is now the L&D Manager!
During her 9 years with Wavelength, Jules was supported to take 2 parental leave breaks to have her beautiful boys and is now working part-time helping Wavelength employees partake in learning & development opportunities.
Craig, originally from the UK, jumped into Wavelength as an enthusiastic Recruiter where he built an incredibly successful portfolio in the Junior Doctor and Emergency Medicine Locum Team.
Seven years later, Craig is now the Team Leader of the JAM & Emergency Medicine team after receiving management training with Wavelength learning & development programs. He also took advantage of Wavelength’s mentorship program working closely with the General Manager of Recruitment and has since proven to be a natural leader.
We lead with heart and care about our community
We are proud to partner with and support organisations that align with our values, and who make a real difference in the healthcare sector, both in Australia and overseas. Some of the charities we support include UNSW Medical School, Cancer Council, Red Cross, Love Mercy Foundation and more.
Wavelength employees are encouraged to support the community as they enjoy volunteer days to get involved with charities that are close to their hearts. We also promote participation in fundraising activities year-round, including pot-Luck lunches, bingo or raffles.
We truly care about our employees’ physical and mental health. We provide wellbeing support through our Employee Assistance Program to equip Wavies with the skills to more effectively self-manage their wellbeing.
