How would you describe your work style?
I work on a busy locum recruitment desk and do this part-time so being organised is paramount! Given the current climate we are also recruiting with the knowledge that being flexible is equally as important and being ready to adapt to change quickly. With so many external factors out of our control presently we can only do the best we can and keeping communications lines open between client and candidate is vital.
What are your current goals?
Providing a good service is always my primary goal. When Dr's and clinics give you repeat business it means they were happy with the service that was provided – there is no better endorsement than this! With repeat business comes repeat sales and the target we are set as Recruiters (which can feel like it is hanging over your head!) suddenly becomes more achievable and less of a big feat to achieve when you get repeat business.
What are your main activities in a typical working day?
Checking in with Dr’s you have placed is vital. I want to make sure they are happy in their job and everything is as it should be. It is also important to check in with the client to check they are happy with the service the Dr is providing to their clients. I also spend time reaching out to Dr's not currently working for me but whom I have placed before to ask how I can help them in the future. To counteract this activity I regularly call hot, warm, and colder clients to find out what their immediate/future needs are so I am able to match available candidates to their needs.
What do you believe are the key things that contribute to your success?
Being honest and being myself. I like to talk and so talking to Dr's and clients not just about work but about their lives outside work is important to build relationships. Do they have families, what are their interests outside of medicine, do they travel overseas regularly?... (obviously not during COVID-19!) Having other things to talk about than just work adds another dimension to this role, which I really enjoy.
